•提升病人辨識的正確性
o無論是給藥、輸血、採血、特殊的臨床檢查、及其他治療或執行照護時，應使用至少兩種辨識病人身份的方法(不含病人的房號或床號)
•改善用藥的安全性
o每年至少檢視及確認一次醫院內使用藥品中，外觀相似或發音相似的藥品清單，並需採取因藥品外觀相似或發音相似導致混淆錯誤的防範措施。
•確保病人持續性照護之用藥正確性及完整性
行政院衛生署於民國九十二年二月成立病人安全委員會，醫療體系也開始展開行動，除了政府相關單位與醫療機構對於病人安全的重視，並規劃相關策略配合，以增進病人就醫安全環境。其中95～96 年度醫院病人安全年度目標及策略包括：提升用藥安全、落實醫療機構感染控制、提升手術正確性、提升病人辨識的正確性、預防病人跌倒、鼓勵異常事件通報、改善交接病人之溝通與安全、提升民眾參與病人安全等。
•防止偽藥於市面上流通：
例如，美國Purdue Pharma 以生產處方藥、非處方藥與醫療用產品聞名，該公司已將RFID的標籤作業與單一藥瓶包裝產線的流程成功整合，應用RFID技術於生產線產品，將符合EPC (Electronic Product Code)標準的標籤貼於OxyContin藥品的包裝瓶上。此外，Pfizer 藥廠之Viagra藥品流向追蹤及防偽等。
•提升用藥安全
醫療人員在調劑藥品、遞送至病患給藥的過程中，確認的內容包括藥事作業部門的調劑(例如病患身份、品名、劑量、數量、用法之雙重甚至三重查核等)、護理人員對於病患身份、藥物、時間、給藥途徑、注射部位、注射速率等與病患安全有關作業事項。雖然RFID無法全面性運用於醫院或社區藥事作業上，但可經由 RFID輔助提升用藥安全
